A total of 1033 patent applications have been published in the 43rd issue of the patent journal. Out of the 1033 applications, 129 applications account for early publications while 904 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18-month period. A total of 205 applications have been granted this week thereby marking an increase of about 12.63% in total grants as compared to the preceding week.

Invention 1 – GAS LEAKAGE ALARM SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF

Abstract: Disclosed is a gas monitoring system for detecting leakage of gas. The gas monitoring system comprises a metal strip, a bimetal strip, and a buzzer unit. The metal strip generates heat upon detecting the gas knob is in an ON state, and consequently, the flame is generated from a burner of the gas stove. The bimetal strip connected with the metal strip expands upon detection of the heat generated from the metal strip. The buzzer unit initiates a notification signal on detection of the ON state of the gas knob and non-expansion of the bimetal strip.

The machine is also capable of cleaning any other object such as walls, doors, windows or any other utensil as well regardless of its material. Liquid soap can be used with the machine for better results. The Semi-Automatic Dishwasher is light in weight and can be charged if the power goes down. The simple method of using the device is to select the appropriate brush according to the object that needs to be cleaned and fix the brush on the top lock of the machine. Now the object needs to be in contact with the brush, add some liquid soap and turn the switch on for the brush to start cleaning. See the cleaning and switch it off once the object is cleaned. Rinse the object with water.

Zee Entertainment’s new patent is said to tantalize all 5 senses!
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. became a proud owner of a patent numbered 10,101,804, titled “Content interaction system and method”, in the USA. The patent protects an idea related to a special visual experience. The new technology is a combination of already existing technological advancements such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), 3D Audio, Holograms and touch. Even though Zee seems to be a little skeptical about the acceptance of such a product in the Indian Market, it hopes to at least create an environment for the same. Mr. Chamli Tennakoon, Chief Digital Officer, ZEEL, is of the opinion that, “This technology platform catering to all the 5 senses will create a revolution in next generation content and the way consumers consume content in future. This is our first break through and there are more innovative, futuristic products yet to be revealed.”
IP India introduces a new Video Conferencing System.
The CGPDTM has introduced a new system of video conferencing whereby, Patent Agents can attend hearings, discussions and communicate swiftly with the IPO, all through a virtual platform. Users can take advantage of this facility and simply arrange for a video conference instead of having to physically be present. This advanced move by the IPO is expected to result in faster decisions being made by bringing into line, its users and the quasi judicial body. The objective of this system is threefold; firstly, it hastens the judicial process. Secondly, it cuts the time required for passing judgments thereby ensuring undisrupted communication between the two parties. Thirdly, it improves the efficiency and transparency of the Intellectual Property Office. Anyone who wants to use this facility can simply follow the procedure mentioned in the link which will be provided by the IPO to initiate the video conferencing. The virtual meeting will be held at a pre-determined time, users can make use of their laptops or desktops with webcams to attend the conference.

Nokia and Samsung join hands yet another time by extending their patent licensing agreement
On 25th October, 2018 Nokia Technologies announced their third quarterly report in which the Finnish company is believed to have made $6.27 billion in net sales. However, the company also declared that the patent license between Samsung Electronics Limited and itself, which was to expire early in December this year, had been extended. The terms of the agreement remain confidential. The revised licensing agreement is said to take effect from 1st January, 2019. Maria Varsellona, Chief Legal Officer and President of Nokia Technologies said that “Samsung is a leader in the smart phone industry and has been a Nokia licensee for many years. We are pleased to have reached agreement to extend our license. This agreement demonstrates the strength of our patent portfolio and our leadership in R&D and licensing for cellular standards including 5G”

China in talks to form a National Intellectual Property Appellate Court
The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress is believed to have been assessing a draft in order to set up a system where the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) will serve as the National IP Appellate Court. This Appellate Court will hear appeals related to intellectual property from other special IP courts and intermediary courts. If all goes well, this body will be situated in the heart of Beijing within the SPC. This system will create uniformity in decisions and create a reliable precedent. The change in the Appeal process will also boost protection of IP laws. SPC Chief Justice Zhou Qiang, said that “The SPC will have a national appeal court for complex civil and administrative patent cases.”
6th Annual Advanced International Certificate Course on IP Asset Management for Business Success
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in collaboration with the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), KAIST & Korean Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) has organized an international certificate course, offline training, for IP enthusiasts and professionals. The course is set to take place between 4th and 6th of November, 2018 in the Korea Intellectual Property Service Centre. Some of the topics covered include IP Management, Fundamentals of IP licensing, patent litigation in the USA and the role of IP management in enhancing the competitiveness of SME’s. Eminent dignitaries like Hyun-Suk Lim, Director, Division for Multilateral Affairs, KIPO; Mr. Anil Sinha, Head, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Section, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Support Division, WIPO, Geneva; Clinton Francis, professor at Northwestern University Law School have been designated as speakers. An official from KIPO said that “The program will contribute to create synergy with the international IP human resources and South Korea‘s IP assets.”
