Hello there Sinapse readers! If you are one of those people who have included “losing some weight” as one of your resolutions this year, this post should definitely be of interest to you. Losing weight can be a tedious task. From crazy celebrity diets to outrageous workout routines to any of the latest weight loss fads, we’ve all been there and done that. Haven’t we? In this post we bring to you some of the patented inventions whose primary objective is to help you lose weight. Here is a list of some inventions filed with the Indian Patent Office that you should consider taking a look at:
Patent application 3320/MUM/2012 titled “Beverage with Weight Management Ingredients and a process of making it” relates to a ready to drink beverage that contains slim aid function ingredients for maintaining a weight loss regime. The invention claims “A beverage with weight management ingredients comprising: 85 to 95% potable water, 2.5 to 3.5% fructose powder, 2 to 5% fruit juices from concentrate, 1.75 to 3% wheat dextrin, 1 to 2% fruit sweetener, 0.05 to 0.11% acidity regulators, 0.02 to 0.06% green tea extract, 0.01 to 0.2% fruit flavours, 0.01 to 0.2% stabilizers and emulsifiers, 0.01 to 0.05% antioxidants, 0.001 to 0.02% food colour.
Water and green tea for weight loss! Hmm… where have we heard that before?
Application number 2540/MUM/2012 titled “NOVEL POLYHERBAL COMPOSITION KIT FOR WEIGHT MANAGEMENT” discloses a novel polyherbal kit comprising of various dosage forms which include a combination of various herbs and minerals, wherein the dosage forms are arranged in the kit in a fixed sequence corresponding to the stages of daily oral administration. The invention claims a kit which includes ingredients like Ginger, Green tea, Cinnamon, Black pepper, Lemon grass, Tulsi to name a few.
Green tea again! Interesting.
Another application 2283/DEL/2013 titled “A NOVEL COMPOSITION FOR WEIGHT MANAGEMENT” relates to a herbal formulation for treating obesity and related symptoms. The herbal formulation comprises extracts of Camellia sinensis, Garcinia combogia and Coffea arabica with or without know additives.
Any guesses what Camellia sinensis is commonly called? If you guessed Green tea, you should probably start considering yourself a genius! While Camellia sinensis is Green tea, Garcinia combogia is commonly called Malabar tamarind and Coffea arabica is coffee.
Application number 7440/DELNP/2006 titled “FLAXSEEDS FOR BODY WEIGHT MANAGEMENT” relates to methods for reducing fat uptake in the gastrointestinal tract of a mammal in order to prevent a positive energy balance, weight gain, overweight and obesity, and to induce a negative energy balance and weight loss in subjects who wish to reduce their body weight. In particular, food and/or beverage ingredients and dietary supplements of the present invention comprises flaxseeds useful for increasing faeca fat excretion from the gastrointestinal tract.
The subject and mammal mentioned above being “a human” and the magic ingredient being flaxseeds. Finally an invention that does not claim Green tea!
Now, this last invention is my particular favorite. If any of your resolutions include making your pet cat, rat, dog or fish lose weight, then this invention should interest you. Application no. 339/DELNP/2004 is titled “A PET FOOD COMPOSITION” and has been granted patent number 237100 by the Indian Patent Office. This invention relates to a pet food composition for regulating body weight and preventing obesity and related disorders in pets. The invention also relates to a method for improving the health of pets, particularly by preventing obesity and metabolic disorders associated with obesity in pets. It also relates to a method for increasing energy expenditure, control the glucose homeostasis and improve activity or mobility of the pet.
Now that’s one composition that Garfield would find evil!
