Indian Patent Statistics
A total of 422 patent applications have been published in the 33rd issue of the Patent Journal, 2019. Out of the 422 applications published in the journal, 169 applications account for early publications while 253 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 – month period. A total of 302 applications have been granted last week as compared to 438 grants in the week preceding the last thereby marking a decrease of about 31.05%.

ECO FRIENDLY COMPOSITION OF BRICKS FROM WASTE SYNTHETIC POLYMER BOTTLES

Abstract – “The present invention provides an eco friendly composition of brick from waste synthetic polymer bottles comprising of waste synthetic polymer bottles; fly ash; rice husk ash; clay black soil and red sand. The composition of brick is cost effective as it is made up of waste synthetic polymer bottles, agriculture wastes and industrial wastes. The brick have high mechanical and compressive strength, provides less water absorption and lighter in weight. NRDC facilitates commercialization of two technologies developed by NIOT
The Intellectual Property Facilitation Cell of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) has played an essential part in aiding the transfer of two technologies developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT). NRDC is said to have drafted the key technology transfer licensing agreement for the technologies namely – “Wave Powered Navigational Buoy” and “E. Faecali Multiplex PCR (polymerase chain reaction) detection kit” to two different companies.
NI-SME to organize 3-day training program on IP strategy
The National Institute for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (NI-SME) will organize a three-day training program for startups and entrepreneurs to exclusively throw light on IP strategy. The program is being conducted with the objective to enable new startups and entrepreneurs to build market value and competiveness in the field of IP. The program has been scheduled to take place between 16th and 18th September, this year. The training will cover the basics of IP including the methods to identify and protect potential innovative ideas. The focus of the program will also remain on topics like Commercialization and Monetization of IP. Apart from Start-ups and Entrepreneurs; Innovators, Research Institutes and Incubators can attend the event and gain valuable information. All participants will be awarded a certificate on completion of the training program.

New MoU enables patents registered in South Korea to be recognized in Cambodia
On 17th August, 2019, the Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), Park Won-joo, executed an MoU with the Cambodian Ministry of Industry and Handicraft, in Phnom Penhn. The MoU between South Korea and Cambodia enables patents registered in South Korea to have the same validity in Cambodia. The MoU is expected to be implemented from November 2019. All patentees with the intention to gain patent protection in Cambodia will have to file a request for the same and submit the necessary documents. Within three months, patentees will be able to obtain the same effect in Cambodia. Between the period of 2010 and 2018, 30 Korean patent applications were filed in in the Cambodia, however, to this day, not a single patent has registered in the country due to the lack of sufficient resources. This expedited the process will undoubtedly enable Korean companies to invade and dominate the Cambodian market. Apart from patents, KIPO signed a MoU with the Commerce Minister in order to enhance cooperation in the field of other Intellectual Property Rights.
China to establish a credit system for protection of IP
In order to enhance regulation and offer better protection to Intellectual Property in the country, China has established a holistic initiative called “Blue Sky.” The project, established by China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CIINPA) will remain effective for a period of two years and will ensure that the system follows expedited processing. One of the objectives of the project is to adopt specific tasks like enabling various patent agencies to undertake extensive self-inspection of reports. It also provides a provision for the establishment of a credit rating system. These moves by CNIIPA display the interest of the Office to foster a healthy IP ecosystem and develop a systematic business environment in the country.
