Indian Patent Statistics
A total of 1081 patent applications have been published in the 29th issue of the Patent Journal, 2019. Out of the 1081 applications published in the journal, 145 applications account for early publications while 936 applications account for ordinary publications or publications occurring after the 18 – month period. A total of 548 applications have been granted last week as compared to 294 grants in the week preceding the last thereby marking an increase of about 86.39%

BIODEGRADABLE SANITARY NAPKIN AND A METHOD THEREOF

Abstract –“The problem to be solved is to provide a biodegradable sanitary article (lOO) that not only absorbs body fluids rapidly but also prevents form itching, rashes or skin allergies to the user, and additionally can be disposed after utilisation without effecting environment, and the problem is solved in present invention, as the present invention provides a biodegradable sanitary article(lOO) with a first layer(120), a second layer(130) and a third layer(140), such that the first layer(120) is made of corn fibre and bamboo fibre present in a predefined ratio to act as a soft and harmless sheet in direct contact with the user’s body, whereas the second layer(130) is made of cellu cotton to fibre to absorb the body fluid, and the third layer(140) additionally provides comfort to the user and simultaneously supports positioning of the article on the body. CII’s set to take an exclusive IP delegation to Japan, in the month of August
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is all set to lead a delegation consisting if IP experts from various platforms such as law firms, startups, industries, including academic and research institutions, to Japan in order to increase IP dialogue between India and Japan. The objective of the initiative is to develop and sustain competitiveness in the India IP sector. It aims to achieve this motive by providing means for exposure into the best IP practices of other countries, in this instance, Japan. The delegation will be led by Mr. Arvind Thakur, the Chairman of CII. During the visit between 5th and 9th August, the delegates will be provided with opportunities to interact and learn from other Japanese experts from various companies, academic institutions as well as research and developmental centers.
Global Innovation Index (GII) to be published on 24th July, 2019 in New Delhi
The Union Minister for Industry and Commerce, Piyush Goyal, will publish the Global Innovation Index in New Delhi on 24th July 2019. The Index will throw light on various aspects of innovative economies and provide a detailed report on innovative standards adopted and framed by over 120 countries of the world. The Index is prepared on the basis of 80 diverse indicators that focus on a number of key features like education, infrastructure, vision of innovation, business sophistication and more. This year’s iconic theme, “Creating Healthy Lives – The Future of Medical Innovation.” Aims to lay emphasis on medical innovations and its dynamism. The Opening Session will provide an exclusive overview of the 12th edition of the GII. The release will be preceded by a number of panel discussions in the field of Medicine and innovation. The Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Francis Gurry, will be present at the release and is also expected to address the gathering. WIPO and IPO of Philippines will soon host the WIPO – IPOPHL Summer School
The World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) Academy has collaborated with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) for the first time, in order to host the WIPO – IPOPHL Summer School in Taguig, Philippines. The Summer School aims to establish a great platform for young IP professionals as well as students who are looking forward to advance their knowledge in the current field. The program aims to provide a holistic method of learning by employing a number of lectures, workshops, practical exercises and group discussions. Further, the program will be conducted by extremely well established international professionals in the field of Intellectual Property. The Summer School will be held between 2nd and 13th September, 2019 and is expected to accommodate 50 participants. The Office of CGPDTM and GI, India published the Annual Report for the year 2017-2018
On 17th July, 2019, the Indian Intellectual Property Office finally published its Annual Report for the year 2017-2018 bringing attention to key developments and initiatives adopted by the IPO in the year 17-18. According to the Report, a total of 3,50,546 Intellectual Property Applications have been filed in the year 2017-18 in comparison to 3.50,467 applications filed in 2016. According to the report about 47,854 patent applications were filed in 2017-18 while the number of design applications filed was 11,837. An increase of about 5.3% can be observed between the number of Patent filings in 2016 & 2017. During the referenced year, the total revenue generated by Patent & Designs Office amounts to Rs. 483.21 Crores where the Patent Offices has exclusively generated 477.06 crores. In addition to the increased profits, the Office also launched the e-filing portal in order to file new design applications with ease.
