Karnataka State Law University released the first volume of KSLU’s Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law on 30th November at the KSLU Campus, Hubli, with the intention of rendering an operative forum, to professionals, academicians and research scholars specifically on these subjects of law while facilitating deliberations and scholarly analysis on the acute issues. Prof. V.S. Mallar graced the occasion and released the first volume of the Journal. Dr. Kalyan C. Kankanala, Honorary Advisor to the Editorial Board and an expert on the subject graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Shanel Punnoose was the Guest of Honor and Prof. Subramanya presided over the event.
Dr.Kalyan, speaking on the occasion remarked that Entertainment Law was a whole lot of other laws in one. He said that the issues that arise in sports and entertainment industries deal with several other laws like the law of contracts,labour law, law of torts, competition law, media law etc. He also enlightened the audience on the new techniques that are being used in the film and entertainment industry which suggest the need for having laws that specifically address these emerging trends.
Prof. Mallar congratulated the University for taking a bold step on having a journal dedicated to the lesser known yet rapidly evolving areas of law like sports and entertainment. Prof. Mallar in his address emphasised on the importance of writing and research. Being a student of constitution as he calls himself, he wished that the Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law would also cover the constitutional law approach for issues arising on these subjects of law among others in the subsequent issues of the journal.
Mr. Shanel Punnoose shared his experience of how this journal came into being and elucidated the need for a journal on these areas of law. Prof. Subramanya who presided over the event, shared his experience in materializing a comparatively new concept into this journal. He also thanked the experts and the team for bringing out this journal.
