Dr. Kalyan Kankanala is the Managing Partner and Chief IP Attorney at BananaIP Counsels. With more than twenty years of experience in intellectual property law, he heads the firm’s consulting and strategy practice. His work spans all areas of IP, including patent, design, copyright, and trademark filings, prosecutions, oppositions, and enforcement. Over the years, he has directly handled and overseen the filing and prosecution of thousands of IP applications in India and internationally.
Dr. Kalyan’s client portfolio includes some of the most respected names in automotive, electric mobility, software, AI, electronics, telecom, biosciences, and sustainability sectors. He works closely with leadership teams of businesses to identify IP assets, build portfolios, mitigate legal risk, and generate economic value.
Dr. Kalyan is the lead author of Indian Patent Law (Oxford University Press), a widely cited reference work in the field. A recipient of national and international scholarships, he holds a Doctorate in Patent Law from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, and an LL.M. in IP, Commerce, and Technology from the Franklin Pierce Law Center (now UNH School of Law), USA.
