There was a decrease of 29.25%in the total number of copyright filings compared to the last week. A total of 143 applications were filed for copyright registration during the last week. While most of the applications were filed for literary works no application was filed for registering Sound Recordings.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR ORDERS TO APPOINT LEGAL OFFICERS
The Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal directed Delhi Police officials to hire legal officers for assisting investigating officers in cases involving complex intellectual property issues and financial or regulatory wrongdoings. He also ordered Delhi Police to harness services of technical institutions for augmenting its efficiency and timely actions.
INDIA AND SOUTH KOREA PROPOSE TO INCLUDE IPR IN THE BILATERAL AGREEMENT
The proposed bilateral trade agreement between India and South Korea may include provisions relating to intellectual property rights. The two countries have agreed to work together for developing joint IP rights in the areas of Internet of things, electrical and automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, water management, and medical equipment. “We will decide how to rope in experts from Indian Institutes of Technology and other premier institutions to be able to create an environment for joint IPR’s and build capacity,” commented an official to the Economic Times.

APPLE COPIED THE APP STORE LOGO
The Chinese clothing company, Kon has filed an infringement suit against Apple for copying its logo for the Apple’s App store Logo. Kon claims that the Apple’s App store logo resembles its own logo which Kon has been using since 2011. Kon has demanded a compensation of 100,000 Yuan (USD 15,200) and an injunction against infringing devices such as iPhone and iPad.

FACEBOOK TO BRING MUSIC BASED EXPERIENCE
Facebook has entered into a licensing deal with Universal Music which will enable Facebook users to upload videos that contain licensed music and personalize their music experiences on Facebook, Instagram, and Oculus. Universal Music is the first major record label to license its music and catalogs to Facebook. “Together, Facebook and UMG are creating a dynamic new model for collaboration between music companies and social platforms to advance the interests of recording artists and songwriters while enhancing the social experience of music for their fans.” said Michael Nash, Executive Vice President of Universal Music Group in his statement.
