World’s Best IP Blogs – IPWatchdog

In our previous post, we featured a superhero ‘Kat’ fondly known in the IP world as “The IPKat”. In this post we would like to introduce you to a watchdog. Beware! It’s no ordinary watchdog, it’s one among the best there is, in fact it is one of its kind in the world of IP. The blog we are talking of today is IPWatchdog.

IPWatchdog was launched in the year 1999, and since then has become a trusted resource on intellectual property for many people. Since the launch of the blog, it has been owned and maintained by Gene Quinn, a patent attorney, law professor, author and inventor. Gene Quinn is an expert in software patents and his practice is also focused on software patents

The blog watches out for news on the business, substance, and law of patents, technology and innovation. The blog occasionally covers Copyrights and Trademarks as well. The blog has been recognized as one of the leading sources for news and information in the patent and innovation industries. Most of the articles are written by Gene Quinn and they are focused on pending legislations, rule making at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and general commentary about the state of the industry.

IPWatchdog has provided individuals, small businesses and entrepreneurs with information to help them understand all areas of intellectual property and to become better consumers. The American Law and Legal System are very different from those of India and Europe, the most significant difference being the ideology itself. In my opinion, as a follower of the blog, IPWatchdog is overtly assertive with respect to patents and enforcement of the patent rights, even under circumstances that do not merit this kind of assertion. This perhaps is a case of simple difference in ideologies.

Whatever be the case, the fact of the matter remains that IPWatchdog is one of the best blogs there is on the internet. The blog has undoubtedly played its part in pursuing the growth of IP. For instance, the blog features an exclusive drop down menu titled “For Inventors”, the menu further enlists topics such as Applying for a Patent, Basic Patent Law, Do it Yourself Patents, Patent Drafting, to name a few. This showcases the blogs intention in making people (particularly inventors) aware of the processes and potentials of IP. On the technical front, the blog is very interactive and user friendly.

There is a thin line of difference between opinion and argument, while opinions do not emphasize on facts, arguments are required to. While opinions do not emphasize on quality, arguments are required to. It is therefore only right in the light of the above sentence to say that, IPWatchdog has maintained the quality in both its opinions and arguments alike. We therefore congratulate it for the same and hope for its growth and success.
